SUNRISE Alliance Summit 2026: Advancing Co-Creation and Collaboration Across Europe
The SUNRISE Alliance Summit 2026, held at Mälardalen University alongside the Global Impact Forum, brought together more than 200 participants from across the Alliance and its regional ecosystems to explore one of the core pillars of SUNRISE: co-creation and collaboration.
Over three days, students, academics, researchers, regional stakeholders, industry representatives, and community partners engaged in discussions, workshops, and collaborative activities designed to strengthen connections and generate new ideas for impact. The Summit demonstrated how the SUNRISE Alliance continues to create spaces where diverse perspectives and expertise can come together to address shared challenges and opportunities.
A central theme throughout the event was the “RISE” dimension of SUNRISE – Regional, Innovative and Sustainable Evolution. Dedicated workshops involving representatives from the Alliance regions highlighted the importance of regional engagement in shaping sustainable and innovative futures. Organized in cooperation with Region Västmanland and Region Sörmland, these sessions provided valuable opportunities to exchange experiences, identify common priorities, and explore new pathways for collaboration.
The programme featured student-led presentations, showcases of collaborative projects and platforms, and a series of roundtable discussions focused on Quadruple Helix collaboration. These activities highlighted the Alliance’s commitment to bringing together higher education institutions, public authorities, businesses, and civil society in pursuit of shared goals. Student contributions were particularly inspiring, demonstrating creativity, professionalism, and a strong commitment to addressing societal challenges.
Alongside the academic and professional programme, the Summit also celebrated the cultural and human dimensions of collaboration. Participants gathered at Västerås Castle for an evening that combined networking, music, and cultural performances. An original musical composition created especially for the event and a light dance performance by students from Fryxellska Skolan reflected the creativity and diversity that enrich the SUNRISE community.
The Summit once again demonstrated the strength of the SUNRISE Alliance as a collaborative European university alliance. Through meaningful dialogue, shared learning, and collective action, participants reinforced existing partnerships, developed new connections, and contributed to shaping the future direction of the Alliance.
As SUNRISE continues to grow, the outcomes and relationships strengthened during the Summit will serve as a foundation for future initiatives that advance innovation, sustainability, inclusion, and regional impact across Europe.
