Join the SUNRISE Virtual Language Tandem

Would you like to learn a new language, practise your skills and meet students from other SUNRISE universities? Join the Virtual Language Tandem – an international initiative based on learning through conversation.

The SUNRISE Virtual Language Tandem connects students from different countries who want to learn from each other. Participants are matched in pairs and meet online, helping one another practise their chosen languages in an informal and friendly setting.

For example, you might practise French with a student from France while helping them improve their Polish – or another language in which you are a native speaker or have advanced proficiency.

How does it work?

Each tandem consists of five online sessions, each lasting one hour. During every meeting, participants spend approximately 30 minutes speaking one language and 30 minutes speaking the other.

The sessions will take place mainly in November 2026, but there is no fixed timetable. Tandem partners arrange the dates and times together, making it easy to fit the meetings around their studies and other commitments.

The languages available in this edition are Polish, English, French, German, Portuguese and Italian.

You can start learning your chosen language as a complete beginner, although B1 proficiency is recommended. To support your tandem partner, you should be a native speaker or have at least C1 proficiency in the language you offer.

Learn, connect and receive a certificate

The Virtual Language Tandem is not only about improving language skills. It is also an opportunity to meet students from other SUNRISE universities, discover different cultures and make new international connections – without leaving home.

Students who complete all five sessions and document their participation on the SUNRISE Moodle platform will receive a certificate of participation.

Registration

Registration is open until 12 October 2026.

In the registration form, indicate:

• the language you would like to learn,
• the language you can help another student learn.

The organisers will then match participants based on their responses.
