Sunrise Alliance Students make their mark at HackCarpathia 2025

Rzeszów, Poland – April 2025

This year’s edition of HackCarpathia turned the city of Rzeszów into a meeting point for innovation, creativity, and cross-cultural exchange. Held at the Wyższa Szkoła Informatyki i Zarządzania (WSIiZ), the hackathon brought together students, mentors, and partners from across Europe for a weekend of high-energy collaboration and problem-solving.

Among the standout participants were two teams representing Sunrise Alliance partner universities: Politecnica delle Marche Ancona (Italy) and TUI Ilmenau (Germany). Both teams delivered exceptional work and reflected the core values of the Sunrise Alliance — innovation, cooperation, and excellence in education.

The Italian team, composed of Filippo Cingolani, Juri Vitalli, Leonardo Bardoni, Mattia Mandorlini, Nour Cherif Benmaza, and Samuele Sacchetti, reached the finals in the AI category with their project “Elder App – Empower Your Elderly.” The app uses AI to support elderly individuals in their daily lives and health management, offering a solution that is both socially impactful and technically refined. Their project was ranked among the top four across all categories — a significant achievement in a competitive field.

The team from Ilmenau also earned praise for their innovative approach and collaborative spirit. Their project demonstrated strong technical depth and creativity, gaining recognition from the jury and participants alike.

HackCarpathia 2025 was organized by WSIiZ — a proud member of the Sunrise Alliance — and hosted with professionalism and enthusiasm. The university welcomed dozens of teams from across Europe and provided an atmosphere conducive to serious innovation and friendly exchange.

The Sunrise Alliance played an active role in the event, not only as an official partner but also as the sponsor of the Audience Award, reinforcing its support for student-led innovation and cross-border learning.

While the grand prize went to the team behind “CyberOpiekun z Mielca,” a project addressing caregiving through modern technology (read more), the participation and performance of the Sunrise Alliance teams stood out as a celebration of academic collaboration across borders.

The Alliance extends its congratulations to all participants and is especially proud of the contributions from Ancona and Ilmenau. Their work reflects the Alliance’s mission: to build a future powered by international cooperation, student potential, and meaningful innovation.
